January Jumpstart
How often have you vowed to stay committed to your January diet? How many times has it worked? Here’s a secret: “Diets” don’t work! Let’s discuss three ways to adopt a healthier routine without feeling deprived.
Try these healthy living options for a week, and note your changes. If you’re feeling bold, try it for two weeks and tell us how you feel!
Limit dairy
This will lower your chances of inflammation and increase your digestive health. If your skin is acne-prone, you may notice a decrease in flare-ups.
Limit refined sugar
When you cut out refined sugars, your energy level can skyrocket! Swap out the sugar in your coffee for agave nectar or honey. Eliminating refined sugar will help improve your heart health.
Exercise
Exercise for 30 minutes daily by walking, jogging, bike riding, or taking a class. YouTube has many free videos; no matter where you are in your fitness exploration, you can find something on YouTube.
Migrant Moment
At Acero Schools, we aim to nourish the whole student, which extends to the nourishment of their families. While every family’s circumstances differ, there are partner organizations that can make a new arrival’s transition smoother.
Fast Food
A large part of eating well is planning to eat well.
We’ve all had a day where we noticed we were starving between running errands, chauffeuring kids and doctor appointments! Even if you may not have time to cook a complete meal, here are a few go-to, shelf-stable, healthy snacks:
Mixed nuts
Most grocery, convenience and discount stores carry these in the grocery section.
Hummus
These can be purchased in individual packs. Throw them into your bag with a few carrot sticks for an easy on-the-go snack.
Popcorn
If it’s lightly salted and low in butter,
it can make for a healthy and filling snack.
What’s New?
OrganicLife has rolled out a delicious new chicken stir-fry.
It features brown rice, vegetables and lean
chicken breast. This dish has become a
favorite amongst students!
Extra, Extra!
Our Cruz K-12 scholars had the opportunity to participate in a food focus group! Students learned the importance of a balanced meal and shared their opinions about Acero’s menu.
